Motor Vehicle Accidents
WHAT IS A MOTOR VEHICLE / ICWA CLAIM?
If you have been involved in a road accident and require treatment to return to pre-injury level of function.
In Western Australia, there is Compulsory Third Party (CTP) insurance which provides owners and drivers of registered vehicles with cover for the cost of injuries they cause to others in a motor vehicle crash anywhere in Australia.
This insurance provides those injured in a crash cover for treatment, care and support, claims management expenses, past and future economic loss and pain and suffering where the injured person is not at fault.
HOW DO I CLAIM AND WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ACCOUNTS?
For most patients, we are able to claim directly to Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA) on your behalf for treatment. Once approval has been granted, all fees (as per WorkCoverWA rates) will be directed to ICWA with no out of pocket expense for clients.
If you are still waiting for approval we are happy to help you start your treatment, but you may need to pay upfront and then claim back from ICWA later.
WHAT TYPE OF TREATMENT WILL I RECEIVE?
The herapist’s at Palms Physiotherapy will discuss with you the best course of treatment. We are passionate about assisting our insurance patients to get the best outcome and treatment possible. Depending on the injury, we will treat you for some hands on treatment in our offices, but in consultation with the patient, we usually apply for a hydrotherapy and/or exercise rehabilitation (including Clinical Pilates) to fully rehabilitate the injury and assist with return to your normal duties and work.
From acute pain management right through to strength re-training, we will help you through every step while communicating with your insurance company to make the whole experience as smooth as possible. We understand that an insurance claim for an injury can be a stressful time. This is why we do everything we can to take the stress out of the process. Regular contact with the insurance company and case manager ensures that the rehabilitation process is simple, meaning you can concentrate on getting better.
DO I NEED A DOCTORS REFERRAL?
Yes, for your treatment to be covered by the Insurance Commission of Western Australia (ICWA) your GP needs to refer you to Physiotherapy if they deem it appropriate. This referral usually lasts 12 months. Unfortunately, you are unable to self-refer, otherwise private fees will apply.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
On your first session, please bring in:
Your GP referral
Your ICWA letter of acceptance with a claim number (if you have one)
All insurance company details including case manager name, contact details (email, address, phone number) and billing details
Any relevant tests or scans
